Run photos - snowy Pennsylvania runs
5 February 2015, 13:46While I was running through the fresh snow in Pennsylvania recently, I took some rather nice shots of the frosty countryside.
Luckily we seem to have escaped the worst of winter so far here i London, thankfully!

28 August 2014, 13:26I mentioned earlier this week that last Saturday’s run took me past a whole series of bridges in West London that I’d never run past before. With each one, I stopped to take a photo to mark the occasion – I considered myself on a Bridge Safari by that point and wanted to collect them all!
I posted some of the new-to-me bridges already, but here are the others you’ll see if you follow the same route along the Thames path west of Putney Bridge…
Hammersmith Bridge
Barnes Bridge
Chiswick Bridge
Kew Bridge
Richmond Lock, Twickenham Bridge, and Richmond Railway Bridge
Many of you who run along the river in West London will be familiar with these but find the sight of Tower Bridge exotic, I’m sure!

10 February 2014, 18:16My plan today had the usual Monday “longish” easy run – an hour and five minutes along the river, and though I don’t usually take many run photos in winter, my eye caught sight of two different cormorants as I was running back along the Embankment.
This second one was just waiting for tourists, I think, as he was spreading his wings for ages right up until the point I got my phone out to take a photo…
These longish runs have become some of my most enjoyable of the week, especially when it’s dry like it was today! This week consists of a threshold session at Run dem Crew tomorrow, a 90 minute tempo run on Thursday, quick recovery run on Friday, and then two and a half hours in the mud and hills on Saturday…

3 December 2013, 16:36I’ve been varying my river runs a bit on my longer mileage days (Saturdays and Mondays), and I snapped this photo yesterday before I even hit start on the GPS!
Sometimes the long, winter runs can be the toughest, and I find it really helps me to change up my routes, time my runs with errands I need to do anyway, and to, well, look around at my surroundings while I’m out there!

Run photo - Playa del Carmen
21 October 2013, 11:29As I readjust to the cold, dark, early morning runs ahead of me, I’m going to think back to my beach run at Playa del Carmen only last Sunday…
You can see several years’ worth of my run photos in the Gallery. New photos are added to the beginning as I post them.

17 October 2013, 10:56No, I haven’t gone quiet or run out of things to say (hardly!) – I’ve been travelling through Mexico for the past three weeks! We started in Mexico City then ate our way through Puebla, Oaxaca, San Cristobal de las Casas, Palenque, Merida, culminating on the beach at Playa del Carmen.
I’d brought some running kit along, but I wasn’t really sure when I’d get an opportunity to run, and it didn’t seem like the wisest idea to head out on my own in unfamiliar cities with added altitude to deal with, too, and besides, I’m on a scheduled break, so I was more concerned about enjoying my holiday! As it turned out, I only got one run in on the very last morning, but having a stinking cold for most of the trip was a major factor, too!
So what kind of cross-training did I get up to while Not Running?
Well, I climbed a lot of pyramids (like these two at Teotihuacan)!
I did more swimming than I have in the past five years combined, including one session at the most stunning natural infinity pool near Oaxaca (Hierve el Agua)!
I did a lot of resting! This was the most scenic of the rests – most of them were aboard coaches…
In addition to the usual crazy amounts of walking you do as a tourist, we also had a guided jungle walk at Palenque that featured terrain that made me want to burst into a run and explore!
And finally, as part of my tried-and-tested eastbound jetlag prevention, I went out for a sweltering 5km run along the beach at Playa del Carmen the last morning. Even at 9am in October it was 30+ degrees and full sun and I had to strip down to my bra and shorts!
I’m pleased to report that the change of scenery, food, and training seems to have done me good, plus the added walking mileage in my new barefoot trainers has helped strengthen up my weak feet, too. I curiously stepped on the scale when I got home and to my shock and amazement, I actually lost 2kg! And I did not hold back on the gorgeous Mexican food, cakes, chocolate, mezal, pina colada, etc etc while I was there either… It’s a bit of a mystery.
And finally, I couldn’t resist buying a bottle of this “Runaway” microbrew beer when I saw it!
Rather tasty served chilled from an ice-filled hotel sink, too (aka “ghetto fridge”)!

1 October 2013, 13:10I caught sight of Tower Bridge opening up for a cruise ship to moor alongside HMS Belfast at the end of a sunny morning run a few weeks ago. Happily it had closed again by the time I ran up to it!

13 September 2013, 13:11I did something today I’ve never done in six years – I ran east! It was just a short, functional run to the supermarket at Surrey Quays, then back home on the bus, but I took two shots worth sharing…
